The Golden Age of Mexican Cinema spanned three decades and produced comedies, romances, and dramas. We will play “Los Olvidados” (1950) on May 8th. See a summary below:

“Los Olvidados” is a Mexican film directed by Luis Buñuel and released in 1950. It is a gritty and powerful depiction of poverty, desperation, and social injustice in the slums of Mexico City. The film follows a group of marginalized and neglected children who struggle to survive in a harsh and unforgiving environment.

The story revolves around the character of Pedro, a young boy who lives in extreme poverty and is surrounded by violence and crime. He becomes entangled with a gang of delinquent children led by Jaibo, a charismatic but dangerous teenager. As Pedro navigates his way through the chaotic world of the streets, he experiences a series of harsh realities, including betrayal, abuse, and despair.
