Excitement and Input from Public Open House
On Monday, 2/23/26, City of San Antonio Capital Delivery and Main Plaza Conservancy hosted an open house at Central Library to share plans and receive feedback for renovations coming to Main Plaza. Over the course of the evening thoughtful discussion was shared along with excitement about continued revitalization for The Heart of the City.
“The open house received a steady flow of people excited to learn about this project. It is encouraging, and vital, to hear from citizens interested in improvements coming to Main Plaza,” remarked Natalie Smith, Main Plaza Conservancy Board Chair. She continued, “Many people expressed their appreciation that accessibility will be addressed. I also enjoyed ideas from Canary Island descendants on how to incorporate the story of their ancestors’ journey here.”

The bustle of the evening was underscored by thoughtful conversation. District 1 Councilwoman Dr. Sukh Kaur who, along with her office staff, has been a warm and helpful partner in moving this project forward attended to show her support.
City planners and designers stayed readily available throughout the evening to provide detailed answers to those who had questions, and Main Plaza Conservancy Board Members volunteers their time to receive guests and hear from San Antonians who wanted to share feedback. Thoughts and insights were saved to a colorful post-it board filled with ideas, concerns, and questions which will be used to inform the next phase of development.

The staff and board of Main Plaza Conservancy extends deep gratitude to city employees and our architecture partners for organizing detailed visuals to help the public understand both the intention behind the project and full scope of plans. We also wish to thank the evening’s host location, San Antonio Public Library Central Library Branch, who offered gracious and accessible accommodations ensuring those that wished to participate could do so with ease.
